Thank you for downloading "Sticky - Virtual Life Form" from Quantum Flux.
Please note that you must have a Direct3D hardware accelerated video
card for the program to run.

System requirements:

- Direct3D graphics card with minimum 8 meg memory
- DirectX 8.0a
- Win95/98/2000
- Recommended minimum platform: Pentium II 400 with 64 meg ram

Installation:

The Sticky.zip file contains 2 files:

readme.txt (this file)
Sticky.scr

Quick Start:

1) Double click on the Sticky.scr file to run. As with any screen saver,
you can right click on the file and select install to make it your default
screen saver.

2) Select your options. The first time you run Sticky, the configuration
panel will load, and you can select the mode and resolution. Click "OK",
and the next time you run it Sticky will appear.

While running the program the +/- keys control the zoom.
Escape key exits the program.

------------------------------------

Further Information:

"Sound enable" turns on Sticky's voice.

"Display Matrix" will render a dynamic image of Sticky's cortex on the floor
tiles. The pattern will change as he thinks. It represents the short-term
matrix, and will start a new pattern each time Sticky starts (the long-term
matrix is saved in a file in the Windows default directory).

"Challenging" raises the sphere, making it more difficult for Sticky to smack
it. This will change the way Sticky's personality develops.

"Auto Save Cortex" - Allows Sticky's cortex to be automatically saved every
5 minutes in a file named "svlfcort.vim", in the Windows default directory.
Allowing Sticky to learn will change his personality.

"Reset Cortex" - With time Sticky will develop unique mannerisms and behaviors.
If he gets too weirded out, you can reset the cortex by the button in the
control panel, or by pressing the 'R' key while it is running. Note - pressing
the "R" key will not ask you first, it will just reset the long-term cortex.

-------------------------------------

Troubleshooting:

The Sticky.scr file must be on a hard drive. A temporary file is created, so
the program cannot run from a CD.

On some fast motherboards or fast video cards Sticky can lock up on his first
run. Try starting it in 640x480x16 fullscreen mode, then up the resolution.
This helps the Quantum Flux Engine line up its synchros to a fast host.

If you have a keyboard with a non-standard +/- key setup, the Z and X keys can
also be used for the zoom.

Registration:

If you would like to see Sticky develop further, please register this software.
Registration will remove the 5-minute time limit. Your registration is currently
the only funding Quantum Flux has.
